The project my daughters did with me!

Image
Here's something I'm rather proud of. . . I have raised two successful babysitters. When they were starting out babysitting, I was as nervous as they were! What if something happens? Will they have to cook? What if the kids are hard to handle? I went over instructions with them right until they walked out the door. I canceled my plans and stayed home in case they called for help. When they got home, I'd want all the details and then go over what to do for next time. They got better and better with each job and my nerves calmed down when I realized they were great babysitters who knew how to keep kids safe AND have fun with them at the same time. Hearing from friends and neighbors what awesome babysitters my daughters are made me so proud!   But now they are getting older and getting different jobs, and spending more weekend nights with friends rather than babysitting, they're ready to pass the torch on to younger babysitters. We had the idea to put together a guide/kit ...

My March

Image
Things I liked about my March: Shamrock Shakes Cadbury Mini Eggs. . . and you know they'll be impossible to find in April, so you have to buy them in March. (Thank you, someone out there on photobucket for the photo) . My mom coming in town. . . Lone Star Taqueria . . . we saw it one night on Diners, Drive-in's and Dives , tried it out, loved it and probably went back every weekend in March. Things starting to bloom, first of all my forsythia Somebody got a passport! Tulips for my anniversary. . . number 8 this year! Birthday gifts! Wahoo! Oh, and my favorite part of every month: Things I didn't like about my March: My new weight, thanks to Cadbury Mini Eggs and Shamrock shakes (see photos above). Too many visits to the doctor. This is the small pharmacy the 3 of us amassed throughout the month. Snow on my blooming forsythia. My new age. . . its one of those tough ones that end in a 0 or 5.

Know any two year olds?

Before I had Lucy, I had a work baby. . . it was called Central Park. THE work project of all work projects. It wasn't just my baby, it was/is a lot of people's baby but I'm terribly proud of the work I did on it and the way it was going when I left. . . one of the hardest parts of leaving this amazing job that I'd been at for almost 10 years was not being able to finish this project. Well, now I get to see it finished! And maybe I can actually help test it! It is an at-home educational program meant for toddlers and their parents (they call it "lapware" because the parent drives the mouse while, in theory, the child sits on your lap and points at the screen). Waterford Institute has been creating top-rate educational curriculum for schools for years and has demonstrated how technology can boost even the toughest schools into competitive test scores and eliminate remediation. If you have or know any two-year-olds, consider signing up for their beta testing ...

a few baby quilts

Image
Machine pieced and hand quilted, this one is for baby Quinn. The focal point of the quilt is the floral fabric with gorgeous corals and reds and the that amazing turquoise that's just the right shade. Sorry, everyone, I picked it up in Tokyo and didn't get enough to share! Machine pieced and hand quilted. A modern baby quilt for little Macey. The white is an Egyptian cotton which makes this blanket feel so luxurious. The fabric on back is by Joel Dewberry and of course you can see some Amy Butler in the front pieces. Finished size 36 x 36". In the close-up, you can see how the hand-quilting washes up. . . I love the way it puckers and bunches, it adds so much texture and interest to the fabric, and by the way its not nearly as tedious or time-consuming as it sounds. I can hand-quilt a baby quilt in about 3 or 4 hours, that's just a couple Law&Orders. I don't use frames, I just pin it well and then sit with it on my lap in while the hubs and I spend some quality...

Ah-choo!

it must have been love

Well, Friday the 13th was fun, but our February the 14th was miserable. Not only was it the worst Valentine's Day in our recorded history, hubby claims it was possibly the worst weekend of his life. I came down with a horrible flu bug at about midnight on Friday night that kept us up till 3:00 in the morning and then laid me out flat the rest of the weekend. Poor Mike had to help me in and out of bed and worse. . . (skip ahead past gruesome details). . . at one point he had to hold my drinking glass for me because I was having severe muscle spasms in my back and shoulders. And as if a sick wifey wasn't bad enough, that threw Lucy off and she seemed upset all weekend and bored of being cooped up and had the worst diaper rash I've ever seen AND a continuously runny nose. So you can imagine, Mike could've been featured on the Discovery Channel's Dirty Jobs for all he had to clean up and put up with over the weekend. That's love. This pic is a little tribute:

I love you more than (blank)

Some smart web designer created this site in time for valentine's day. Anyone can add their statement and it shows up on an "I love you more than" heart. Some of my favorites are: I love you more than bulldog puppies. I love you more than frito pie. (I'm intrigued. . .) I love you more than Settlers of Catan. (And it does take love if your lover beats you at it) I love you more than Pam loves Jim. I love you more than you love your Xbox 360. Anyhow, feel free to leave your "I love you more than _____'s" here in my comments. . . not about me, but about the one you love more than anything.

A little tribute. . .

Some pics from our Christmas. . . we spent a week in Seattle at my parents house. Let's start with an outing to Trophy Cupcakes in Wallingford. Seattle had more snow than they knew what to do with. We made the most of it and played in the snow a little everyday. And yes, its true. . . they sled on the streets in Seattle. Why not? Certainly noone can drive on them! Below are pics of making sugar cookies with my mom. . . a favorite Christmas activity. Lucy was more interested in eating them than frosting them. One day, we braved the snowy roads and made it out of the house and went to Alderwood Mall just to let the ...
