Graduation and Teacher Gift Printables - End of the School Year Goodies!

 Here it is, Maycember! Once the month of May starts it quickly snowballs into a continuous stream of concerts, recitals, final games, awards ceremonies, graduations and parties! It's almost too much, and yet, how could it be too much? This is it! This is what it's all for! All the hard work of going to school and taking the tests and practicing the piece and dreaming of the celebration, this is the culmination of all that effort!  Over of the years, as I've prepared teachers' gifts and graduation cards to use, I've saved the printable files to use again in the future or make available for others as well.  Here are some of my favorites: I like these green flowers and the Pink & White cookies at Trader Joe's. I thought they made a nice little bundle for either Teacher Appreciation week or a thank you at the end of the year (if you can keep the cookies around long enough!) . . . they'd tell fantastic stories of medieval court life and dragons and castles! I just saw these fantastic shadow puppets at Kate's Paperie but of course they are sold out! Wouldn't it be fun to make some though? Lucy's into pirates these days. . . I could design a set of pirate shadow puppets. . . add that to the list of projects I would love to do but probably never will. Seriously.

hello dolly meets bye by birdie

Lucy had to get special x-rays taken at Primary Children's Hospital yesterday. (It is called VCUG if you want all the details .) It is something we have to do every year to check up on a urinary tract abnormality she has. The procedure is fairly quick and easy but can be traumatic none-the-less. This year, they gave Lucy a "hospital buddy" which I thought was the most brilliant thing every. It's a simple muslin doll that someone has sewn and donated. The doll is nondescript except for the hospital gown. The children can personalize it with markers or bandaids and are even encouraged to stick it with needles. . . it helps them deal with anxiety and feel more comfortable with what is going on. Lucy took to hers immediately. Even though we brought several of her favorite dolls and stuffed animals with us, they were left in the bag and "Birdie" (yes, that's what she named her) got all the attention. more virtual quilting. . .

This Denyse Schmidt quilt from the Sundance Catalog is inspiring me. . . and tempting me. It's on sale at the Sundance Outlet store not far from where I live and I practically salivate every time I see it. I really like the idea of using solid fabrics to make your own patterns and designs in quilts. Here are a few excellent examples from Land of Nod that also get my creative juices flowing: There is a whole flickr group called simply solid quilts which is also fun to peruse for ideas.

A blag about my friend, Ann. . .

Look at this fabulous idea from Ann . While visiting her Grandma Dolly in Vernal (is that right, Ann?) she decided to take some pictures around the house . . . what a brilliant way to document the lives of someone you love! And these pictures will help keep this an important place in their family history for years to come. Here's something Ann said that sums up her little photo essay: I love the scent of her fresh clean bath towels and the blooming lilac bushes, the sound of her creaky floors and doors, and the sight of my Grandpa's hats hanging in the hallway. For me, its refreshing to be in a place that doesn't change much and has had the same phone number since before I was born. . .
