Let's peel back these layers!

juliannlaw Here is a closeup of the endpapers in my debut picture book, THE WORKD’S LONGEST SOCK. I work digitally in Adobe Photoshop but the program doesn’t do it all for me! I knit all the pixels by hand! Haha! I do have things I do to help me work quickly and efficiently, though, like using layers. Here you get to see me take off those layers one by one till we are back at nothing but a background. The World's Longest Sock is now available on  Amazon ,  Barnes and Noble ,  Target , or wherever you  buy books !

Easter, A Cool Story, and Our Anniversary

Here are a few photos of our Easter. . . Lucy in her Easter dress, our nephews and our Easter Egg Hunt. Clever feet photo with candy all over the ground courtesy of Katherine Wallin of Wallin Photography. Oh, and Lucy in her bunny ears with her favorite snuggly bunny (both by Bunnies by the Bay, the softest and cutest baby stuff you can imagine).

Ok, cool story. . . after the Easter Egg hunt, our nephews were still kind of in seek-and-find mode so they were going on a treasure hunt around the courtyard of our complex. They found all sorts of "treasures" like a screw driver, petrified gum, a stick that looked like a gun, a lug nut that looked like a bullet, some cool rocks, colorful plastic bits, etc.

To make it a little more exciting and to keep them going for awhile I told them there was a real treasure around here somewhere, that the other night when hubby and I came home from who-knows-where, a neighbor we'd never met, poked his head up over the fence and asked if anyone had found an engagement ring. Well, this perked my interest, of course, and I tried to get more out of him. He said (and I wish I could remember his exact words) that someone had thrown a ring and it hit this huge RV that's parked back there and then bounced into the darkness. I offered appropriate sympathy ("oh man, that sucks!") and told him we'd keep our eyes open. We walked away and thought, that poor guy is never going to see that ring again!

Well, within ten minutes of telling that story to the nephews, Sam our oldest nephew came running over with his hand clenched in his pocket with another one of his treasures, but this time it was for real! He'd found the ring! I gave him a big hug and said he'd just made someone very happy I was sure! We set off immediately on foot to go around the block to the neighbor's house with the adjoining backyard and huge RV. We knocked on the door but the guy wasn't there. So we left him a big note on the fence he'd peeked over saying, "We found it!" and our Condo Number. On the way back Sam found a wad of money (ones). . . I swear if we'd have kept walking he would be rich by the time we were done, this is one lucky kid.

I would have loved for Sam to be the one to give it to the guy, but it didn't work out that way. Sam had to go home and the neighbor didn't see the note until this evening. But when the doorbell rang, I knew who it was. I opened the door and he was standing there with a big smile on his face and an orange note in his hand, tape still on it. He said, "You guys are the only ones I told about this. I'd been looking for that ring for three hours when I told you and I felt so dumb, I'd just kind of given up." I told him about our nephews and their treasure hunt and he said, "Well, its an Easter miracle. Tell them thank you. This really made my Easter so much better."

P.S. AND it's our anniversary. Happy Anniversary, babe! We think this will be the only one in our lives that will fall on Easter. AND It's our seventh. How cosmic. They say if you can make it through 7 years, you can make it through anything. . . I'm up for at least another seven, what about you, Sweetie?
