The project my daughters did with me!

Image
Here's something I'm rather proud of. . . I have raised two successful babysitters. When they were starting out babysitting, I was as nervous as they were! What if something happens? Will they have to cook? What if the kids are hard to handle? I went over instructions with them right until they walked out the door. I canceled my plans and stayed home in case they called for help. When they got home, I'd want all the details and then go over what to do for next time. They got better and better with each job and my nerves calmed down when I realized they were great babysitters who knew how to keep kids safe AND have fun with them at the same time. Hearing from friends and neighbors what awesome babysitters my daughters are made me so proud!   But now they are getting older and getting different jobs, and spending more weekend nights with friends rather than babysitting, they're ready to pass the torch on to younger babysitters. We had the idea to put together a guide/kit ...

let's let the pro handle this

The amazing Katherine of Wallin Photography took some great photos of us when Emmie was just over a week old. I can't post all of them, I have to keep the baby announcement and Christmas card pics a surprise. . . but here are some of my other favorites. I'm lucky to call her one of my good friends, but don't worry. . . if you're not, you can still have her do your baby photos . . . or wedding photos . . . or family photos . . . or facebook profile photos. She's a pro! Not only does she have a great eye and fun style, but she also retouches and makes lovely images even lovelier with a little Photoshop, which I endorse. Another thing I love, is that she'll take photos right in your home, so they're trully unique and represent you.

Lucy's first day of preschool and Emmie smiling. . . Now this is by no means the first time she has smiled, its just her first documented smile. People tell you newborns don't smile, that its just gas, but I don't believe it. Emmie's been smiling since she was only a week old and it was definitely in reaction to being picked up or smiled at. But I'm so mesmerized by her cute little cheeks and that amazing gummy smile, I never get my camera, I'm just living in the moment. Anyhow, I finally looked away for a second and grabbed the camera. . .

We spent Labor Day weekend in Idaho at one of hubby's old college roomate's farm. We had so much fun with our friends and their kids and their animals and their wide open spaces. Here are some of my favorite pics from the weekend. . . Best of the Trampoline: (Sidenote: I did very little photo-editing here. . . just played with the levels on some of them, this is all legit! I had my camera set on the sports setting so it had a super fast shutter speed. I was also kneeling on the ground and had the camera pointed up so the kids were sillouetted against that amazing expanse of sky.) I actually did it with Lucy twice, here is the Best Of her other jumping photo shoot: Best of Me: Best of Hubby: Best of Baby:

week 2: in which grandparents save the day and lucy realizes the world has not ended

My mom stayed with me for just over two weeks and really came to the rescue. . . not only did she do the dishes, the laundry, drove me around, painted our downstairs apartment, and kept me sane, she also entertained and spoiled Lucy. . . We tried to do some of our normal everyday routine things so Lucy wouldn't think life as she knows it was over. Freinds came to visit to keep active and happy. . . We went to gymnastics to get some energy out. Mom's other responsibility was to cuddle the baby. . . (she's good at it!) This may be the chillest baby in the world. . . In the midst of all the excitement, we also had a major project going on at the house. . . an eight foot concrete wall going between us and the neighbor. . . with a three foot footing. . . which means a huge hole and a huge pile of dirt. and a queen of the hill. . . The night before her birthday party, she did what my dad describes as a double-somersault down the sidewalk (see how useful that gymnastics is?) and...

week 1: lots of cuddle time

This is when Lucy and Gramma Leen came to see us in the hospital that first day. . . can you tell somebody likes her little sis? One of these kids is watching Scooby Doo. . . The best part of having to slow down and convalesce a little bit. . . Emily May and her Great Grandmother, Gwendolyn May Emmie watching her daddy watching crime dramas. . . It's no wonder at dinner the other night, Lucy looked out the front window and said, "That cloud looks like a daddy holding his baby. . ." We're loving cuddle time.
